Police interactions in Canada

Hi everyone. I thought this would be a great video to teach ESL students in Canada. The police powers in Canada may be quite different from whichever country the students traveled from. Therefore, it is important to be aware should students have any police interactions.

This is a great video, Cooper. I like this guy, I'll definitely watch a few more of his videos. I never thought about this lesson before, but it's such a good one to teach students. I find this particularly timely with the recent developments in the Marrisa Shen homicide case where the actions of the police were called into question over the collection of DNA samples from Middle Eastern men. So important for our new Canadians (and all Canadians) to know the law, their rights and how the legal system works.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good point Cooper, ESL students should also be made aware of our Guarantee of Rights and Freedoms as presented in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Also, learning the ways to interact with police will take the pressure off of ESL students interacting with them. In addition, it would be helpful for ESL students to realize that the police are not there to harm them in anyway, as there are legal rights of life, liberty, and security of person along with all the other Charter Rights and Freedoms.
ReplyDeleteVery successful Cooper. See you later.
