Thanks for understanding

Hey all. Thanks so much for your understanding tonight. I made it to the hospital by 6:50pm, and stayed with my mom and brother until around 8:30 pm. The nurse said that he was mostly out of 'danger'. He was very restless when we first arrived, but by the time we left he was sleeping soundly (snoring). I will follow up with my parents and perhaps the doctor tomorrow morning. Thanks again for your understanding and gracious concern. See you soon. Marc

Hi everyone, Hope you all had a good weekend. The post I have shared with you is Indra Nooyi. She is a woman who I deeply admire and is a woman of substance. Nooyi is the CEO of pepsi and has also been among the worlds 100 most influential women. The 5 C's that she is talking about in this video has helped me to change my outlook towards life and has helped me in my own personal growth. I hope you all enjoy this video.

Wednesday Night's "Online Class"

Image
Hey everyone. I'm really enjoying my "Teachers Institute on Parliamentary Democracy" which started today in Victoria. Here I am enjoying some down time relaxing! Just kidding! I was posing for this picture. Because we are not having class tomorrow night, I would like you to watch a video of your choice from TED. If you are familiar with Ted Talks, you'll know what I mean. If, however, you have never watched a TED Talk, google "ted talks" on your computer or phone, and you will be asked to choose a topic. One of my favourite TED speakers is Sir Ken Robinson. You may want to check out this talk,  at https://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_how_to_escape_education_s_death_valley Anyway. When we meet next week, I will ask you to share what you watched and what you got out of it. Until next week! Enjoy!

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hello everyone,  It took me some time to figure out how to post on Blogger (Duhhh) Sorry about that guys. FYI, we need to go to www.blogger.com to post new topics, don't go to (http://burnabytesol2018.blogspot.com) directly, it won't work. Today I would like to share a video with you guys about  "How to learn a new language in shortest amount of time" (Yes I rephrased his title, does this word "rephrase" even exist?) Anyway, the reason I'm sharing this video is because: A, this is my own experience as well when I go through my English learning process. B, I wanted to share a general idea with you(especially my native English speaker fellows), as an "using English as second language" person, how we acquire a foreign language. I believe we can pick one thing or two from this video and teach our students as well.  Let me know what you think. Beside the video, I wanted to ask you guys if you are interested in joinin...

Criminal Record Checks

Great news class that I wanted to share. Linda Vanderheide, my supervisor whom you met, has confirmed that those of you with existing valid criminal record checks can use them for our practicum. In her recent email to me, she said, "  Yes, TESOL students with active Criminal Records checks can use them with our school.  However they have to use the SHARING FORM.  Here is a link: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/ content/safety/crime- prevention/criminal-record- check/sharing-results So that is great news for our class. If you have any questions about this process, we can talk more about it soon. I have never used this sharing link before. But I will do the best to answer questions and help you out.  Marc

Teaching Physical Appearance

Good Afternoon Everyone☺, I hope you are enjoying the long weekend and of course the beautiful sunshine! Today I would like to share one of the activities that I always do with Level 3 and 4 students which they really enjoy. Since I am a big fan of games, I always include them in my lesson plans. The main focus of this game is to teach them  new vocabularies for " Physical Appearance". It is called "Guess Who" and the students need to guess their opponent's mystery person before their opponents guess theirs! Depending on their English level they should ask correct questions using present simple  and present continuous tense . They can also use the prompts on the second page and I will also teach them new expressions about game playing which you can find them on the second page as well.  I hope you like it ! P.S. Blogger doesn't let me attach word document and the only way I could do it is using a google drive and share the link. Please let me know if ...
