Teaching Physical Appearance
Good Afternoon Everyone☺,
I hope you are enjoying the long weekend and of course the beautiful sunshine!
Today I would like to share one of the activities that I always do with Level 3 and 4 students which they really enjoy. Since I am a big fan of games, I always include them in my lesson plans. The main focus of this game is to teach them new vocabularies for " Physical Appearance". It is called "Guess Who" and the students need to guess their opponent's mystery person before their opponents guess theirs! Depending on their English level they should ask correct questions using present simple and present continuous tense . They can also use the prompts on the second page and I will also teach them new expressions about game playing which you can find them on the second page as well.
I hope you like it !
P.S. Blogger doesn't let me attach word document and the only way I could do it is using a google drive and share the link. Please let me know if you can use below link to access my file otherwise I will change it to JPG format and will re-attach it.

Negar
Thank you so much for this activity Negar - looks like fun for the learner and provides them with lots of opportunities to practice.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Michele! That's right. They not only play but also learn something!
DeleteKudos to you Negar for the interesting activity.Love the guess who photos.
ReplyDeleteThe faces have distinct features .This helps the learners to match the clues with the pictures.Really liked the different ways of asking question. And the sections with responses was a great idea.
Thank you Vandana! :) That's true! There are tons of ways to practice grammar and new vocabularies for every single character !
DeleteWhat a cool activity, Negar! Thanks for sharing this, your teaching experience is so insightful. I'm so going to try this one...with celebrities, of course. Haha. Have a great rest of the weekend! Happy Thanksgiving, all!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Cat! Yeah I love the idea of using celebrities as well! Enjoy the rest of the weekend! :)
DeleteThank you, Negar for sharing this! I really love the activity, it is full of fun and laugh which make students remember better and learn faster. The good thing about this activity is that there are lots of room to move around. Enjoy lovely turkey dinner :0) Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
ReplyDeleteIt is true Saeedeh! They really enjoy playing it and sometimes take it so serious. LoL take care and will see you soon.
DeleteThank you for sharing. Games are great way for students to learn, it's more fun and helping to build up interests.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you James! I really love games and I always use them! It is way better than boring grammar classes that we had! :))
DeleteI have a question
ReplyDeleteWhat is the best way to assess your new student. For example, we are in tutoring business, a new student comes to you and wants to join the ESL class. I don't think it's a common case for the student to take an assessment test cus that takes 1-2 hours of time. What would you do?
Thank you
This is a great question. I have a lot of thoughts on this...so let's talk about this in class. Simply though, when I assess a new student I just ask them what they think their "level" is, and I act accordingly. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to assess them. The trick is to get away from a purely quantitative approach to assessment, and move to a task-based qualitative paradigm, if that makes sense! I'll chat more about this in class. Remind me!
DeleteThank you Marc, I remember you mentioned about this, that makes sense if the students are adults. Would you talk about assessment for children in the class please?
DeleteI would love to know more about assessing students when you are teaching one on one as well.
DeleteGreat resource. I have wonderful memories of playing "guess who" with my kids. So that reminds me of all the other games little kids play, that can be adapted for the classroom. And have fun too!
ReplyDeleteExactly! I believe with a little bit creativity we can adapt many childhood games for adult classes! To me, adults are just big kids! They love playing!
DeleteThanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCooper
