Happy Monday Everyone!
Hello everyone,
It took me some time to figure out how to post on Blogger (Duhhh)
Sorry about that guys.
FYI, we need to go to www.blogger.com to post new topics, don't go to (http://burnabytesol2018.blogspot.com) directly, it won't work.
Today I would like to share a video with you guys about
"How to learn a new language in shortest amount of time"
(Yes I rephrased his title, does this word "rephrase" even exist?)
Anyway, the reason I'm sharing this video is because:
A, this is my own experience as well when I go through my English learning process.
B, I wanted to share a general idea with you(especially my native English speaker fellows), as an "using English as second language" person, how we acquire a foreign language. I believe we can pick one thing or two from this video and teach our students as well.
Let me know what you think.
Beside the video, I wanted to ask you guys if you are interested in joining a facebook group chat so we can share more fun experience or techniques to each other after we graduate from the program.
Thanks for posting this!!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great post James, it gives the perspective of what it takes to learn a new language from deductive to inclusive it's less restricted and shows that the #1 of his rules is that we will all make mistakes in the process. When you can see how fast that man attained multiple languages it really gives food for thought about the approach to teaching a new language.
ReplyDeleteThanks see you later!
Exactly Kevin. Thank you
DeleteI particularly like the idea of making mistakes. Its contrary to what we are taught in the schools system, but definitely a necessary part of learning.

DeleteThanks for posting this video, James. I loved it and he made so many great points. I will never forget learning French in high school, my teacher was definitely the 'stickler', but there was no room to make mistakes, so everyone was just stressed out and hated going to class rather than embracing the joy and fun of learning a different language. I find that in studying my Turkish now, while I get really self-conscious around Turkish speakers, I have implemented some of these techniques (while I'm driving, I get mad and shout at people in Turkish) and I've picked up more of that language in a short period of time than I did in years upon years of French. Watching this video, it all makes sense as to what's going on there. So interesting!
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes to the Facebook group! That's a great idea!
Great video James. The five techniques that he mentioned are very good. I think making mistakes and improving is great technique and also talking to your self always helps. Thanks for sharing this video.
ReplyDeleteThank you James! I believe we learn from our mistakes in different aspects of life. I am always in favor of a stress free class where there is a room for making mistakes rather than an old school educational system!๐คจ
ReplyDeleteAnd yessssss to Facebook page!!!๐
Amazing presentation. Thanks for sharing James. This has encouraged me to learn a new language:)
ReplyDeleteA good reminder that it is Ok to make mistakes and to be easy on ourselves.
And a shout out to everyone in our class .We all have a common love for learning and passing on to others what we learn here.
Thanks again James.
Thanks James for this great video. I liked making mistakes and don not feel guilty about that as we did at our old school system. Honesly I talk to myself but not loudly. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteThank you, James! It was very amazing how the approach to teaching is changing over time. I believe these tips could be helpful to share with ESL students as well so they don't get terrified of making mistakes or doing some crazy stuff like talking under shower which speeds up their learning process.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone.
ReplyDeleteI have created a Facebook page called: 2018 TESOL Burnabay Group
Please feel free to join in and see you guys later!
Happy Tuesday.
